Creative Reuse Fashion Intervention
Athens, Greece 2019
House of Refashion #projectsemedaki
Working with 100% recycled materials, this creative reuse fashion project features the Greek semedaki. Traditional handmade textiles with intricate original design details, using techniques that have evolved over thousands of years of artistic practice and innovation, remain hidden in drawers and closets all over Greece. We want to honor women’s work by highlighting the skill, talent and creativity of this domestic textile, giving it new life and purpose.
The project will result in a fashion line made entirely with used clothing, featuring that most infamous of Greek textiles: the semadaki. Beloved and affectionately ridiculed, each Semadaki is hand crafted, made by generations of Greek women as a dowry for daughters or granddaughters. Now this exquisite, high quality, unique textile will take new form and context. The Project Semedaki reFashion public space social intervention will take place at Victoria Square Project (VSP) on July 23 as a part of the summer closing events.
To participate in the Fashion Show or donate semedaki or used clothing stop by Elpidos 13, Victoria Square Project between July 3- July 19 Tuesday – Sunday from 14:00-20:00
